Jerome F. Wendel

Fond du Lac - Jerome F. Wendel, 89, passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2021. Jerry was born on June 12, 1931 to Claude and Frances Wendel.

Jerry proudly served as a Marine Staff Sargent during the Korean War. Upon returning from the War, Jerry married the love of his life, Janice Wettstein on May 1st 1954. Together they had two children, Gary and Sharon.

Jerry began his working career with Wisconsin Tractor in Fond du Lac, WI. He advanced to Zone Manager with Ford Motor and Tractor Division. Jerry's career took his family to Wisconsin Rapids, where they lived for many years. During his time working, his job took him all through the states of Wisconsin and Michigan. Eventually they moved back to Fond du Lac and became life-long friends with Ray and Jan Hulderson.

Jerry was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and bowler. One of his favorite pastimes was hunting on his land in Pittsville, WI with the "guys". He was a member of the Van Dyne Sportsman's Club, where he spent many years shooting trap with his then son-in-law, Jerry Hintz. He was an active member of Holy Family Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He was the head of his extended family and made sure that you were taken care of, always giving advice whether you wanted it or not. Everyone knew they could count on him in times of need. Jerry loved his family deeply.

Jerry is survived by daughter, Sharon (Tom) Fischer; daughter-in-law, Sharon Wendel; grandchildren, A.J. Wendel, Michelle (Jeff) Voss, Cassie (Ryan) Durant and Jacob (Becky) Hintz; great-grandchildren, Danica, Logan, Anthony, Cole, Xander and Carter; sister, Delores Rozek; Jerry Hintz and best friend, Jan Hulderson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; son, Gary; grandson, Michael; sister, Florence Schuppe; brother, Don Wendel and best friend, Ray Hulderson.

A private family service has taken place. Jerry will be laid to rest in St. Charles Cemetery.

Jerry's family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Sydney, Melanie, Joanne and SSM/Agnesian Hospice for the wonderful care given to him.
