Zoch, Orian Rose

Orian Rose Zoch, 90, Madison, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at her home.

She was born on Nov. 12, 1922, in Eden Wis., the daughter of Hugh and Irene (Rueping) Martin.

Orian enjoyed many outdoor activities with her family including boating, swimming, bicycling, hiking and camping. She was an avid figure skater, founding member and secretary for the Madison Figure Skating Club. Later in life she enjoyed skiing vacations to the Rocky Mountains.

Orian came to Madison after graduating from the Fond du Lac business school. She worked as a typist for the State of Wisconsin, before becoming a full time mother and housewife. She returned to work for the Wisconsin Department of Health Vital Records Services after her children had grown. Orian was a Sherman Avenue area resident for 60 years and was a poll worker for many elections in ward 30 at Sherman School.

She met her husband Lawrence Zoch, while traveling on a bus from Madison to Fond du Lac. They were married on March 5, 1946.

Orian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, son, Eric; and only sister, Joan Gellings.

Orian is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline (Zoch) Major, Birmingham Ala.; Paul and Judy (Leonhardt) Zoch, Madison; Roger and Lois (Chapman) Zoch, McFarland; and grandchildren, Chad, Adam, Emma, Kurt and Grant.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Avalon Assisted Living Community & Agrace Hospice Care for the wonderful care, guidance and support of Orian. The family also asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Olbrich Botanical Society, Inc. which she enjoyed and visited frequently.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Ryan Funeral Home, Windsor/DeForest Chapel, 6924 Lake Road. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at the funeral home and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Burial will be at Cottage Grove Cemetery.
