Obituary Condolences

Burchill, Dr. Phillip Stephen

Dr. Philip Burchill, 94, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on June 6, 2012, at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.

Philip was born December 2, 1917, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the only child of Philip Samuel Burchill and Anna Kingsbury.

Philip graduated from Marquette University and Medical School, after which he immediately joined the Navy.

Prior to his ship assignment, he was posted to San Francisco where he met the woman of his dreams, Jacklyn Claire Davidson. They wrote letters continuously to each other for two years while he was at sea during World War II.

Philip and Jacklyn married on January 21, 1945.

After completing his naval duties he started his private practice in internal medicine in Los Angeles, working at both the California and Good Samaritan Hospitals. Together they raised four children and have lived in the Silverlake area for over 60 years.

Philip was a man of many passions and hobbies. He was an avid photographer, orchid grower, fly fisherman. He loved the mountains taking his family camping in the Mineral King/Sequoia National Forest area each summer for many years.

After the kids were grown, he and Jacklyn traveled the world including a visit to his hometown of Fond du Lac each summer, and enjoyed a second home in New Zealand for 15 years.

He was a constant reader and after retirement would be found in his favorite chair in his handsome library for hours each day. His satisfaction for his career was immense saying he could not think of anything more fascinating than the human body. His greatest passion of all though, was for the love of his life, Jacklyn. They were married 67 years.

Philip is survived by his adoring wife Jacklyn; children Ann (Dennis Kundsin), Philip (Gillian), Susan, and Mary (Mark Maxson); five grandchildren: Brian and Jack Maxson, and Philip, Matthew and Megan Burchill; other relatives and friends.
