Christopher Chrost Obituary

formerly of Fitchburg; 42

VALLEY VILLAGE, California -- Christopher Lee Chrost, formerly of Fitchburg, passed away on May 24, 2010 in Valley Village, California from Type 1 Diabetes complications.

Born September 17, 1967 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Chris was the only son of Catherine M. (Doyle) Chrost and Thomas J. Chrost. He was a graduate of St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School; Middlesex Community College; and Fitchburg State College, where he achieved a BS in Human Services and was also named to the President's List.

In recent years, he worked for various agencies where he provided personal protection services for individuals, events and companies. His most recent security assignments were through Tri-Une LLC in California.

An avid weight lifter and trainer, he inspired those around him to be stronger and more resilient. Deeply committed to making a real difference, Chris' last years on the west coast were dedicated to offering guidance to and helping those individuals who struggled with substance abuse, and especially giving hope and inspiration to those suffering from diabetes melittus.

Nicknamed by his friends in CA, "The Gentle Giant", his heart far surpassed his body size. Chris was always willing to help anyone in need, and typically did so with little fanfare and through anonymous means. He was well-placed to provide such assistance, as his own struggles had led him to a dedicated life of sobriety and ultimately fulfillment in knowing grace through a higher power. His wit, wisdom, mega-watt smile and magnetic personality attracted many friends. Not one to publicly flaunt his razor-sharp sense of humor, Chris was most likely to be found privately entertaining friends and small groups, all of whom he left in stitches for hours.

In addition to his parents of Fitchburg and Leominster, he leaves a sister, Alexandra, of Leominster; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Anna and Herb Chrost, and maternal grandparents, Bertha and John Doyle, all originally of Fitchburg.

Chris also leaves behind many special friends whose hearts were deeply touched by him.

We feel truly blessed to have had 42 years with this wonderful soul and will miss him more than words can convey. Farewell gentle giant. Eternal PEACE to you.

Memorial service on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Church in Leominster Unitarian Universalist, 15 West St, Leominster, MA.

I have known Chris for much of my life going back to our days at JCD. He was such a loving person and I never ran into him that he did not have a welcoming hug and kiss. When Meg contacted me to let me know it really broke my heart. He was a wonderful person that will be missed.
Thinking of you in your time of loss.

Chris was a great friend and a great person. I admire his courage to better himself. I will never forget our great day at the beach with Michele and my convertible. We laughed all day and all the way home. Chris also drove me and my friends around Boston in a limo for my bachorlertte party and looked over me as if he was my big brother. I was very saddened to hear of his passing, and also dissapointed in myself for loosing touch. I sure he made a difference where ever he went and I will cherish the fact he was my friend. May God Bless him with eternal life. Robin Scott

Cathy, I know how hard it is to loose a child, having been there. Just remember that he helped so many and is now up there watching over you. You have been blessed to have had him as long as you did, and that he was able to turn his addiction into something good. Take care, and God Bless.

As a mom who lost her a treasured 18 year old son this past September, I know the pain and shock of losing a child; something that shouldn't happen to a parent no matter how old the child is. I am so very sorry for the loss of your son. It seems to me that your son's legacy will be the way he made people laugh and feel.
