Aila B. (Roiko) Crawford, 82
Former Teacher in the Townsend Area

FITCHBURG - Aila B. (Roiko) Crawford, 82 died at her home on Sunday, May 13, 2018 after a sudden illness.

She leaves her husband, Richard A. Crawford; two sons, Rick Crawford and his wife Lisa of Fitchburg and David Crawford and his wife Jan of Colorado Springs, CO; three grandchildren, Brett Crawford and his wife Lisa of Belmont, Laura Jackson and her husband Patrick of Westminster and Rachel Simoneau and her husband Tim of Allenstown, NH; three great-grandchildren, Colin Crawford of Belmont, William Jackson and Henry Jackson both of Westminster and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by a sister Nancy Dionne.

Aila was born in Fitchburg on March 20, 1936 a daughter of the late Alfred and Laina (Mikkola) Roiko. She was a 1954 graduate of Fitchburg High School and later went to Mount Wachusett Community College and earned her Associates degree. She then furthered her education earning a master's degree in Education from Fitchburg State College. She was a Teacher in the Townsend School district for many years before retiring.

In her high school days, she was a member of the school band and was a cheerleader.

Aila was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, where she was very involved. She taught Sunday school and was the church secretary for a period of time. She enjoyed skiing, crafts, knitting, sewing, basket making, gardening and loved painting. She and her husband also loved to travel.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

CRAWFORD - Her funeral will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Messiah Lutheran Church, 750 Rindge Road, Fitchburg, MA.

Burial will be private at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 763 Mass Avenue, Lunenburg, MA.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Memorial Fund, 750 Rindge Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420 or may be left at the funeral home.
