Charles A. Hastings, Jr.
of Lunenburg; 87

LUNENBURG - Charles A. Hastings, Jr., 87, died peacefully at The Highlands on Monday June 11, 2018 due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease.

He was born in Burlington, VT on September 22, 1930 the son of Charles A. and Janice (Parker) Hastings. Charlie attended Fitchburg High School and graduated from Vermont Academy. He received his bachelor's degree from St. Lawrence University and an MBA from Northeastern University.

He served in the Army from 1953 to 1955.

Charlie worked for New York Life Insurance Company for over 40 years, and was the owner of Hastings Financial Services, assisting many clients with life, health and investment services. He was a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters, the Fitchburg Rotary Club, and the Hamilton Investment Club. He was also a longtime member and past president of the Flopenaufin Ski Club and a member of the Wachusett Old-Timers Skiers Club.

Charlie lived in Lunenburg with his wife and children for over 25 years before moving to Grand Isle VT, where he had spent summers with his maternal grandparents as a child. He returned to Lunenburg in 2015 after 5 years in Rindge, NH.

Charlie was an animated storyteller and an avid gardener. He embraced his passion for skiing through the age of 79. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, camping, snowshoeing, playing cribbage and watching New England sports teams.

He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Lucie (DeLisle) Hastings of Lunenburg, son Henry Hastings of Lunenburg, daughters Susan Young of Leominster and Amy King and her husband David of Lunenburg, and granddaughters Emma and Lauren King of Lunenburg. He also leaves his in-laws Louise and Hector Fortin of Townsend, Gisele DeLisle of Leominster, and Gerard and Margaret DeLisle of Newburyport, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by in-laws Jacqueline and Charles Dumont and Paul DeLisle.

Special thanks go out to the staff at The Highlands, and to his home health care nurse Jeannie for enabling him to stay at home until June 1st.

HASTINGS - His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018, at 10AM in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster. Burial will be in the North Cemetery in Lunenburg. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 14, from 4 to 7 PM in the Isabelle and Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St., Fitchburg.
