Robert George Cole, Sr.

FITCHBURG - Robert George Cole, Sr. Bob, as he was known by family and friends, died on Feb.1, 2020 at Fitchburg Healthcare. He was born July 30, 1936 in Boston, MA to Roger Cole and Mary (Lynch) Cole Cunniff. Much of his youth was spent with his favorite "Auntie Rose" who was first to encourage him to pursue his love and gift of art. Bob served three years as a paratrooper in the US Army Later he earned an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences. He married Rita Campanella (1958). They raised six children in Bellingham, MA. He married Ildiko Toth and three step children in 1985. Bob concentrated on landscape and still life artworks while teaching watercolor painting classes at various schools and galleries. His educational supplies will be donated to the Bellingham Public Library. He was a member of Leominster and Gardner Art Associations and Princton Portrait Society. Watercolor painting seemed to bring him the most joy but he also loved oil painting and sculpting. Bob is predeceased by his parents, sister, Francis (Cole) Bennett, and his first wife Rita (Campanella) Cole. He is survived by his six children Cindy McNamara, Jean Soar, Judy Baker, Mary-Jo Creasia, Linda Choinski, and Robert Cole, Jr. and their spouses as well as his step children Eric Zolton, Tanya (VonRosenving) Moyen, Scott VonRosenving and their spouses. Bob leaves 22 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 7 nieces and nephews and their families.

Bob has requested no funeral but instead a celebration. His feeling was "I've had a good ride!" A celebration of life gathering is scheduled for Saturday Feb. 8, 2020 at 12:30 pm at Slattery's, 106 Lunenburg St., Fitchburg. Please bring pics of your artwork of Bob's to share! Any donations in his name can be made to Alzheimer's research or any local library.
