FITCHBURG - Roland E. "Navy" Brousseau, 88, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2018.

Navy was born in Fitchburg on November 11, 1929, a son of the late Leo and Cecile (Dumais) Brousseau. He attended St. Joseph school and graduated from St. Bernard's High School. Always active, starting at the age of 14, speed skated with the legendary Carmelita Landry and won the New England Championship in speed skating for his division. In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country during the Korean War in the 82nd Airborne division. While in service, Navy played baseball in the minor leagues. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and upon his return home, began a career spanning 30 years with the former Fitchburg Gas and Electric Co., retiring in 1983 from Unitil as Head Lineman.

Navy also coached several youth baseball and ice hockey teams and for years he played in the Old Timers hockey league. In his retirement, he truly enjoyed playing golf, and was awarded a lifetime membership at Monoosnock Country Club in Leominster. Along with his wife Gail, Navy enjoyed winters in Sarasota, FL, where he started a golf league with close friend, Joe Raimon. The most important aspect of Navy's life was family, he always treasured the time spent with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Gail (King) Clark-Brousseau, his children, Mark Brousseau and wife Ana of FL; Debra Stewart and significant other Richard Adler of Fitchburg; Gary Brousseau and wife Karen of Fitchburg; step-children, Heidi Clark-Fields and husband David of SC; Tammy Moore and husband Jeffrey of Princeton; Kym Clark and significant other Ronald Chevarie of Westminster; grandchildren, Matthew Stewart, Michelle Stewart-Courchaine and husband Paul, Timothy Brousseau, Jason Brousseau and wife Shannon, Zachary Brousseau, Ryan Moore and wife Whitney, Meghan King, Stephanie Moore- Anderton and husband Wayne, Brittany King, and Camaron Caron, William Fields and wife Shauna, Gregg Fields and wife Sarah; 5 great-grandchildren, and one on the way. He is also survived by his brother Armand Brousseau and his wife Bonnie of NY; several nieces and nephews.

Navy was predeceased by his sister Gloria Montolio, his brother Raymond Brousseau, and his first wife, Rita (Bourgault) Brousseau.

The family would like to extend a most sincere thank you to Dr. Rollo and Dr. Rooney and the Reliant Medical Group, the GVNA Hospice, and the multitude of family and friends who helped care for Navy.

BROUSSEAU - Calling hours will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Wednesday, August 15 from 4-7pm. The funeral Mass will be in Saint Joseph Church, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg on Thursday, August 16, at 10:30am. Burial will follow in the MA Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.
