John "Jack" W. Maffett FLORENCE - John "Jack" Westbrook Maffett, 72, died Saturday evening, October 2, 2010 in a local hospital after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church with interment following in Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. Mr. Maffett was born April 5, 1938 in Florence a son of the late Robert F. and Ouida McCown Maffett. He was a graduate of McClenaghan High School and served his country in the US Navy for four years. A plaque for the local V.A. Memorial Park was given in his honor by his wife upon its opening in 2008. He retired from Lowe's in 1997 as Contract Sales Manager and became self employed as a residential home designer until the present. Mr. Maffett was a member of Pee Dee Homebuilders Association, First Presbyterian Church and the Grace and Truth Sunday School Class. He was also involved in the Tuesday and Thursday morning Men's Breakfast Prayer Groups of the church. Jack will be greatly missed for his wonderful sense of humor, upbeat personality, and wit by all of his host of loving friends who have given him so much support since the onset of his illness. His faith in God is what has sustained him for the past two years and he has been an inspiration to all who have known him. Surviving is his loving wife and soul mate of 32 years, Barbara Abu-Arab Maffett of the home who, along with Mr. Maffett renewed their marriage vows on September 30, 2010 at their home. He is also survived by brothers, Robbie Maffett of Chattanooga, TN and Haynie Maffett of Beaufort, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
