Mark Edward Smith
Palm Bay, FL
Mark Smith, 63, started his new life in heaven on Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Those that knew him well, know that he wasted no time taking on his new tasks, eager to feel useful and have the ability to serve once again.
Beyond his familial roles, he was known as "Coach Smith" and "Mr. Mark". He was very generous, always volunteering his time, and he had an incredible imagination and talent to make life a little more special and fun for everyone, young and old alike.
Mark was an Air Force veteran who served in the Vietnam War. His military career was spent as an Air Traffic Controller which included participation in the shuttle program at Patrick AFB. He retired as a Master Sergeant and continued his career in the private sector at Space Coast Regional Airport and Melbourne Airport. He was extremely proud of his service and his country.
He was an avid follower of Jesus Christ and an active member of Centerpointe Church. His faith gave him the strength to endure the disabilities caused by his illness. He never complained.
Mark is survived by his wife Joan; his mother Marie; his brother Jeff; his sisters and their husbands, Karen (Barry), Gail (Steve) and Anita (Kenny); his sons and their wives, Derek (Christina) and Dan (Melissa); his step children and their spouses, Douglas (Karen) and Susan (Jason); his grandchildren Daniel, Kaylee, Elizabeth, Austin, Jackson, Sydney and Colton; and his loving nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Jack. He will be extremely missed by his family who loved him as dearly as he loved them.
A memorial service will be held at Centerpointe Church, 891 Coply Street, SE, Palm Bay at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 17, 2013. His final resting place will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Mark would have greatly appreciated a donation to Centerpointe Church Children's Ministry.

Derek and Dan - I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Your Dad was a big influence on my life and I feel fortunate to have had him and your family as a neighbor growing up on School Drive. I hope my dad and your dad are chatting about us as I type this. Our thoughts are with you.

It is because of people like Uncle Mark that I cannot doubt the presence of the Lord. With each breath he glorified God, always placing others before himself and blessing those around him. He surely saved my spirituality countless times, and I am so blessed to call him my Uncle. Praise God! See you in Heaven, Uncle Mark :)

Our prayers have been answered, Mark is no longer trapped in that shell. And now he is free in heaven with those loved ones that past before him. A part of our heart is gone and he will be missed. Looking forward to the day that we can embrace each other again. I love you Big Brother.

Mark fought a great fight and now is in God arms. I was very blessed to know him as he touched many of our lives. We raised our kids in the same neighborhood and he was so proud of his boys. My thoughts and prayers are with Joan and all the family and friends. May God Bless each and everyone of you.

Mark was an amazing person in our families eyes. We got to know him well during the time he helped run PBYAA.. that has been many yrs ago... but still keeping in touch as we would see him around Palm Bay, I knew he was still the leader helper and instrument of great help to many through church and sports...our heart is full of gratefulness that Mark became a Christian and is in Heaven with his Heavenly Father...He will be missed....Blessings of Peace and Comfort to you all... in Marks Family.through this time..Jane Moncus and Family
