Gary Dover Obituary

Gary Dover, age 60, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2013 with his loving wife and children by his side. Gary was born on June 9, 1952 in McRae, Georgia. His family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida when Gary was a small child. He enlisted in the United States Army and served a portion of his four year service at Camp Darby in Tirrenia, Italy, where he met and married his beloved wife of 29 years and mother of his children, Diane, who predeceased him on April 12, 2002.

Gary graduated from Brevard Community College in 1977 and was presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1991. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida in 1979 and was a life time member of the UCF Alumni Association, as well as an Alumni Trustee. In 1983, Gary opened his own practice, Gary Dover, CPA, where he devoted his career to providing superior service to his clients, many of which he considered dear friends.

Gary's greatest pride came from raising his children, Michael and Michelle. In June of 2005, Gary was blessed with the birth of his first grandchild, Collin, and earned the new title, "Papa", which he wore so well. Michael and Laura also blessed Gary with four additional grandchildren, Addison, Ansley, Annabelle and the newest addition, Donovan. In December of 2011, Gary's sixth grandchild, Morgan, was born to Michelle and Robert. To say Gary adored his grandchildren would be an understatement, as they each added an indescribable sparkle to his eye.

In 2005, Gary met Nancy; they began working together, fell in love and married in 2009. He was then "Papa" to three additional grandchildren, Grant, Kaleb and Logan.

Gary was a man who was passionate about life. He enjoyed family, work and play. Whether it was biking on the Harley's with his brother Richard, fishing in Mexico with friends, visiting the ruins in Rome, vacationing with family in Hawaii or completing a tax return, it was about "doing it right".

In addition to being a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, Gary was also highly involved in the community. He forged many lasting relationships with neighbors, clients, fellow Rotarians and friends. Some of Gary's fondest memories and greatest stories arose from being on the water and doing what he loved best, fishing with friends and family.

Gary will always be remembered for his generosity, strong convictions, loyalty, courage and love for life; as Gary would say, "Life is Good!"

A gathering to celebrate Gary's wonderful life will begin at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a short service starting at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Veranda Room, 105 McLeod St., Merritt Island, FL, near Mr. Dover's office.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Merritt Island Breakfast Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 540574, Merritt Island, FL 32954-0574.

Memories and Condolences
for Gary Dover

Not sure what to say?

I'm just now hearing of Gary's passing. My heart goes out to his family and close friends. I only saw Gary once a year for my tax preparation. But when you visited Gary, it was never all about taxes. He always wanted to know how your year had been and he always would share special moments from his past year with me. He was indeed a very special man.

Roland and I are in Venice, Italy on vacation and just found out about Gary's passing. Gary has been a friend for a very long time. Gary was indeed blessed with a wonderful family and Gary was a blessing to all who knew him. Gary gave us advice about visiting Italy before we left on our trip. As always, he was kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. I know how proud Gary was of Michelle and Michael. He would always show me the latest pictures of them and his precious grandchildren. Gary knew that I was very found of Michael and Michelle and he always took the time to let me know how they were doing. Roland and I will miss Gary and his zest for life.

I never knew Gary but he seems to have been loved dearly by all. May his friends and family find comfort in their prayers (Phillipians 4:6,7).

Gary,

You were such a bright light in my life and the lives of so many others who needed you along the way.

I am so Blessed that God put you in my basket. You were my trusted Campaign Treasurer as I sought and maintained the Office of Sheriff.

I will never forget your serious conversations with me about how important it was to you that although you wanted to help me become Sheriff that you first needed my word that I would "always do the right thing". It was a promise I made to you that I did not take lightly and will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Your example of living a life of the highest ethical standards have had a profound impact on this community in so many ways.

You have been such a good and faithful servant of God's children. You always were there when people needed you and you always put the needs and feelings of others before your own. Your work as a Rotarian and Community Volunteer are further evidence of your love for your fellow man.

You raised a beautiful family who are doing their part to make this world a better place.

You were, by every account, by everyone whoever knew you, a great man. Our world is a better and more loving place because you were in it.

It has been a distinct honor to have you as a part of my life. I am a better man for knowing you. I miss you more than I can say. But I am looking forward to the day that we meet again.
