Barbara Hendrick Pitard

Barbara Pitard, 83, of Punta Gorda, FL and Banner Elk, NC, died at home in Florida on June 7, 2013. Her family was with her. She was born in Keene, NH, daughter of George and Ada Hendrick, and grew up in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

She is a 1951 graduate of the Children's Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, where she worked for three years before moving to California. She was an RN at two hospitals in San Diego where she met Alden Pitard, who was on active duty with the Navy. They were married in 1955. They relocated to Seattle where they lived for eight years and she worked in a private hospital. She has been a Florida resident (Brevard and Lee Co.) since 1964 and worked part time as an RN for several Cocoa Beach physicians.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 57 years; daughter, Anne Conway (Wayne) of Port Orange; and son, Alden (Denise) of Cocoa Beach. She was predeceased by her son, Stephen in 2009. She has five grandchildren in OR, NC and FL; and two great-granddaughters.

Barbara loved the outdoors and her many interests include golf, swimming, bridge, cooking, camping and sailboat cruising. She has stayed in touch with several of her nursing school classmates and their families, and enjoyed a number of visits with them over the years. She and her husband did extensive travel throughout the US, Canada, the Caribbean and Europe. She was a parishioner at St. Therese in N. Ft. Myers and St. Bernadette in Linville, NC.

Memorials may be made in her name to the of Florida, 1040 Woodcock Rd., Suite 119, Orlando, FL 32803.

A private service is planned for a future date.
