Diana Akers Melbourne Diana Akers peacefully passed on Saturday, March 19, 2011. Born in Panama City, Panama, to Mr. and Mrs. Felix Dominici, Diana moved to the United States in 1968. Her passion and talents in the arts and gardening, led her to win numerous awards and inspired many who were blessed to know her. Diana was a great mentor to her co-workers at the Child Development Centers at Hurlburt Field and Patrick A.F.B., Florida. She was selected as a member of Phi Theta Kappa at Northwest Florida State College, a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and attended Calvary Chapel of Melbourne. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 43 years, CMSgt (Ret.) John D. Akers (Doug); her seven sisters and 2 broth ers; her daughter, Elisa Risner (Lt. Col. Clark H.); her son, John (Susan); and her grandchildren, Rebecca, Mikaela, Victoria, Lea, Jonathan and countless friends. Her funeral will take place on Saturday, March 26, 2011, 5 P.M. at the Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home, 1010 E. Palmetto Ave., Melbourne. Friends who are wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the William Childs Hospice House.
