Ina Smith Welch
Melbourne, FL - Ina passed away peacefully with her sons by her side at the William Childs Hospice House Saturday October 6th on her 74th birthday! Born in Washington DC, and raised in Rochester NY, she lived in Richmond, VA and Boca Raton, FL before moving to Melbourne FL.
She is survived by her two amazing sons, Mike Welch and Jeffrey Welch, two daughters-in-law, Shayne Welch and Sabrina Welch, as well as 5 wonderful grandchildren: Peyton, Gabe, William, Savannah and Phoebe. These grandchildren gave her great joy and pleasure and she was able to see them often. She is also survived by her 5 siblings: Eric Smith (Nancy), Marc Smith (Bonnie), Lisa Adams (Late Donald), Melanie Shelton, and Paul Smith (Kim). She loved being a part of her close-knit family unit of brothers and sisters.
She is predeceased by the love of her life, William (Bill) Welch II. Married for 38 years, it was a heck of a ride! They lived in Korea for a year when Bill was in the Army. They had their two sons when they returned home. They built a vacation home on a lake not far from their home in Richmond, Lake Gaston. They thoroughly enjoyed all the travel they did in their last 10 years together.
Educated with a BA from Vassar and a Masters from Duke, she had a career for many years working with developmentally disabled infants and children as a pediatric physical therapist - a career which she dearly loved.
She loved all her long-term friends at Ichabod's Dockside and all her new-found friends at Buena Vida Estates. She had a joy in being with her friends and in her career. She would like to be remembered for her smile, her laugh, her ability to enjoy life, her love of family and of course Happy Hour.
She requested that in lieu of flowers, she would like any donations to be made to Promise in Brevard. A memorial in honor of Ina has been established at Promise which is an organization dedicated to providing housing and employment opportunities to individuals with special needs.
