Paul Leo Casavant U.s. (Ret.) Navy Obituary
Paul Leo Casavant U.S. Navy (Ret.)

Cocoa Beach - Paul Casavant passed away September 1 after a valiant struggle for breath. Paul was born August 1, 1923 in Baltic, CT to Emile and Philomene (Biosuert) Casavant as one of eight children. At age 18 Paul was helping build submarines in Groton, CT.

Twenty days after the attack on Pearl Harbor Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy and volunteered for submarine duty. Paul served on nine World War II submarine patrols in the Pacific. Over his 30 year Navy career he served on nine submarines, an aircraft carrier, as staff on the Pacific Sub Command, and a recruiter. As a Navy Chief, Paul was recognized as a man of continual and effective dedication. After retiring from the Navy Paul worked 16 years for the City of Orlando Traffic Division.

Paul was humble, loving and generous. His sense of humor delighted those around him, though occasionally exasperated his Navy command. Baseball, enjoying the company of family and friends, and fishing were Paul's passions.

Paul leaves a family that loved him deeply. He is survived by his wife Blanche, son Derald Casavant, step grandson Steve (Shasta) Richards, three generations of the Ryan clan he inherited when he married Blanche; and nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral Mass for Paul is 1 p.m. September 22, Church of Our Saviour, Cocoa Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Paul's name, to the , or to St. Mary's Submarine Museum, St. Marys, Georgia. You may sign Paul's guestbook at
