Horace Lamberth

Horace L. Lamberth - Melbourne - Horace L. Lamberth passed away Friday, July 31, 2009 due to complications after a strenuous battle with cancer. Horace, the youngest of six children, was born November 18, 1933 in Cottontown, TN. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two brothers, and a sister. Horace graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then moved his family to Satellite Beach, FL where his extraordinary career began at Kennedy Space Center, where, by 1984, he had risen to Director of Shuttle Engineering. After his retirement from NASA in 1986, his ever-present love for the study of space prompted him to begin a career at Lockheed Martin, where, in 1990, he acquired the title of Vice President and Chief Engineer until his retirement in 1997. For the eleven years succeeding his retirement, he was still considered an asset as a consultant to the United Space Alliance. He was honored with the note worthy National Space Club Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. His remarkable career is showered with several awards exemplifying his interminable dedication. Horace is graciously remembered by his beloved wife of 56 years, Peggy Lamberth. He is also survived and cherished by his two daughters, Marcia Hannan and Karen Fields as well as his five grandchildren, Leslie, Aaron, Zachary, Rachel, and Taylor. Horace will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather as well as a devoted member of the NASA family and an excellent golf buddy. A memorial service will be held at Suntree United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 4th at 11 a.m. In place of flowers, Horace's family is asking a donation be made to a charity very dear to him, St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
