Dorothy Lavita Denny

Dorothy Lavita Denny, age 99, was taken to heaven Monday, July 7, 2014. She was born November 6, 1914 in Chapin, IL to the late Andrew and Blanche Wheeler. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Paul Denny; two brothers, George and Reggie Wheeler and one sister, Mardell Wheeler. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great- grandmother. She loved and was loved by her family and friends. She loved to laugh and the company of children. Throughout her lifetime, she loved to dance and have fun with her family and friends. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star in Eau Gallie, FL. She was a member of Choestoe Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA. She dearly loved her Pastor Ken Zollinger and his dear wife Tani.

The family wishes to thank Ken, Tani and the members of the congregation that kept in touch and made her feel a part of the church family while being absent from them. The family would like to thank all her friends in Sparta, NC for their kindness, compassion, friendship and especially Dr. Arocha, Medi-Home Hospice of Alleghany and both their staff.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Pat Denny of Blairsville, GA; one daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Vern Ashley of Sparta, NC; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

The family requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Dorothy on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Choestoe Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA with Pastor Ken Zollinger officiating. The viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Graveside services will be conducted by the Eastern Star at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, FL at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014. The family requests that flowers be sent to Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 S. US Hwy. 1, Rockledge, FL 32955 or memorials may be made to Medi-Home Hospice of Alleghany, P.O. Box 1287, Sparta, NC 28675. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home, Mountain View Funeral Home and Florida Memorial Gardens is proudly serving the family.
