Siegfried Oberlaender Obituary
Siegfried "Sigi" Oberlaender, 70, of Indialantic, died peacefully in his home on June 9th, after a long battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rosi Oberlaender, and their daughters Michaela and her husband Kevin Grass and son Nicholas, and Janine Vlasis and her children Stephanie and James. Sigi's twin brother, Heinz, and his sister Vera and their families are mourning him in his native Germany, along with friends in Colombia, Europe, and around the States.
Sigi traveled the world as a chemical and mechanical process engineer for Akzo Corporation. He was a founding member of the Dixieland jazz band, Main Gags Summer Drops, where he played trombone and trumpet among other musical instruments. A lifelong artist, Sigi had painting exhibitions throughout the Southeast and abroad. He worked with local children on a mosaic at Juan Ponce de León Landing in Melbourne Beach. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Indialantic, the American Portrait Society, the Florida Watercolor Society, the Brevard Cultural Alliance, and Ascension Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 14, 2012, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1053 Pinetree Drive, Indian Harbour Beach, FL.
In lieu of flowers, Sigi would be most honored for memorial contributions made in his name to Ascension Lutheran Church or to Wuesthoff Hospice in Brevard County.

I saw an art display of yours and we got together at your house around 2010. After I left I asked you to paint 2 pictures for me which you did. They hang in my hallway which I walk down 20 times a day. Everytime I pass I look at them, smile, and feel blessed to have them and have shared a few moments in his wonderful life.

As I was driving recently, Sigi popped into my head. I started to think about when I was first introduced to him. I thought he was such a harsh person, but later on as I got to know him, he was the kindest person, great artist. His critiques of my art were sometimes hard to take, but they were gentle and made me want to improve. It's hard to believe that it's been 9 years already since he has left this plane.
As the days, weeks, months and the years pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. Time may lessen the pain, but can never fill that gap left, but I know that the memories are there. May they bring you peace.

Liebe Rosi,
wir trauern mit dir und Deiner Familie um einen guten Freund und langjährigen Kollegen, der immer hilfsbereit, einsatzfreudig war und viel Frohsinn und Freude verbreitet hat. Wir hoffen, dass er seine letzten Tage ohne Schmerzen und mit der Möglichkeit von Euch allen Abschied nehmen zu können, verbringen konnte.
Es ist wirklich schade, dass er nach dem Arbeitsleben nur einen so kurzen Lebensabend und dabei Jahre lang mit der Krankheit zu kämpfen hatte. Nun ist dieser Kampf vorbei und für Dich beginnt ein neuer Lebensabschnitt ohne Sigi.
