Jane Fuqua Obituary

Jane Boyd Fuqua
Jane Boyd Fuqua, 77, passed away unexpectedly on March 4 in St. Simons, Ga.
Jane was born in Huntington, Tenn. to Annie Louise and Joshua Rieff Boyd.
As a young child, she moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn., the well-known "Atomic City."
Residences in her later life included Marietta, Dawsonville and Dalton.
Jane was a lifelong educator and held degrees from Kennesaw College, Georgia State University, The University of Tennessee and her highest degree earned, an Educational Specialist's from Jacksonville State University. She graduated from all of these universities with highest honors. She was inducted into prestigious academic honor societies including Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Kappa and Alpha Delta Kappa. Jane was a published author in two different educational journals.
Jane began her career as a sixth grade teacher with the Cobb County School System in 1974. She continued her career for 31 years, serving as a teacher, an assistant administrator, an assistant principal, a school principal and ultimately retired as the Associate Superintendent of Forsyth County Schools.
She was a revered and sought-after mentor to all who were lucky enough to know and love her. She was a tireless advocate for children and spent her days promoting a quality education for all.
Jane was an avid reader and lifelong learner. She loved watching The University of Tennessee play football, but upon marriage somehow learned to love University of Alabama football, too. This dichotomy was only exacerbated when two of her daughters and two granddaughters earned degrees from The University of Georgia. She was an All-SEC fan!
She is survived by her beloved and precious husband of 58 years, Connie Mac Fuqua, of St. Simons; as well as daughters, Kelly Snyder (Kent) of Dalton; Kasey Baxter (Danny) of St. Simons; and Connie McCrary (Greg) of Cumming.
She had seven beautiful granddaughters: Daughters of Kelly and Kent Snyder: Hannah Snyder Blackwell (Matt) of Tunnel Hill, Annie Kathleen Snyder Sapp (Jake) of Athens and Mollie Snyder of Dalton. Daughters of Kasey Baxter: Alexis Marie Andare (Eddie) of Kennesaw and Taylor Ackman of Sandy Springs. Daughters of Connie and Greg McCrary: Delaney Caroline McCrary of Dahlonega and Elizabeth Anne McCrary of Cumming. Jane also had one great-grandson, Charlie Mac, son of Alexis. She is survived by two sisters, Brenda Boyd McLeroy (Tom) of Grand Isle, Fla. and Nancy Boyd Perkins of Oak Ridge, Tenn., as well as several nieces and nephews. Scooby the cat also survives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Sara Boyd Gillespie and brother, Joshua Rieff Boyd.
A private memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. March 7 at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick.
