Ricky Dean Defries, 'Rick', of Ft. Morgan, went home with the Lord on Friday, September 8, 2017, after a long battle with cancer, ending at the VA Hospice Unit in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Rick was born in Wray, Colorado. He attended Ft. Morgan High School then joined the United States Navy, serving from 1980-1983. Rick married Tina Martinez in August of 2000 at Widbey Island, Washington. They made their home there and later returned to Colorado. After Tina passed away in 2014, Rick married Linda Temple Helzer in May, 2017. Rick was a truck driver his entire working career. He worked for many companies, driving locally as well as over the road. Rick loved being in the outdoors; fishing and hunting were his passions. He was able to enjoy a couple of fishing trips in his final months. Rick is survived by his brother Ron and wife Kim of Yuma, Arizona, sisters Terri Buss and husband Jody of Peetz, Colorado, and Rhonda Hamann and husband Rick of Ft. Morgan, step-kids Matt Martinez & wife Gina of Greeley, Lori Lechman and husband Jim of Evans, Andrea Christensen and husband Doug of Brighton, Rachel Martinez of Colorado Springs, and Aaron Martinez and wife Lana of Oak Harbor, Washington,as well as grandkids Lars, Tara, Nicoyia, Adam, Jayme, Jenny, Samuel, Sydney and Kale, great-grandson Kamron, niece Sara, nephews Stephen, Matthew, Bobby, and Rodd, as well as several cousins and other family. Rick was preceded in death by his wife Tina, his mother Ester Holland, and other extended family. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on October 21st, at The Sanctuary in Ft. Morgan, Colorado. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Andrea Christensen to help with funeral cost, with anything above cost donated to the Cheyenne VA.
