ALVIE J. HILL, 95, of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at home with his family by his side. Born on March 17, 1923 in Sycamore, Ohio, he was a son of the late Harley E. and Della S. (Rose) Hill. He graduated from McCutchenville, Ohio High School. Alvie served his country honorably with the Unites States 8th Army Air Corps., San Antonio, Texas, as an instructor on heavy equipment from March 22, 1943 to March 2, 1946. On April 19, 1947, he married Thelma I. Marsh at Simpson United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne. Alvie worked at U.S. Rubber Co. over 12 years, Tolkheim Corp., and then worked for International Harvester Co. for 24 years, retiring in Aug. 31, 1983. Alvie was also a member of the UAW 57. He was a member of the Forest Park United Methodist Church, serving on the board of trustees, membership care and pastoral relations. He was referred to as "Project Alvie" for his love of woodwork, residential painting, and gardening. Surviving are his wife; daughter, Judith (Sam) Calvin of Sun Prairie, Wisc.; sons, Gary J. Hill of Austin, Texas, Dennis (Tami) Hill of Villa Rica, Ga., and Kent A. Hill of New Haven, Ind.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Glenn E. (Mary Alice) Hill of Franklin, N.C., and sister-in-law, Mary Louise Hill of Delaware, Ohio. Alvie was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sage Elizabeth Hill; brothers, Kenneth M., Russel, Keith D., and Alton D. Hill; and sister, Ardis M. Hill. "Special acknowledgement to dear friend and caregiver, Donna Sefton." Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave, Fort Wayne (IN 46805), with calling one hour prior from 10 to 11 a.m. Officiating the service will be Chaplin Kris McPherson. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Highland Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to Heartland Hospice.
