CLINTON E. HAMPTON, 85, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Charleston, Ill., passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at Hospice of the Valley. Clint was born June 14, 1932, in Coles County, Ill., a son of Albert J. and Opal Ida (McMahan) Hampton. He married Cheri Delores Hayes in 1954, and she survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He held memberships in V.F.W. Post #1421 and the American Legion Post, both in Fort Wayne. He worked as a plumber, first at Swifty's Plumbing and then he worked for and retired from the Fort Wayne Community Schools. Besides his wife, also surviving are his four children, Robert Shick of Fort Wayne, Clinton Hampton of Waynedale, Twila Hewlett of Phoenix, Ariz., and Shelly Waddell of San Diego, Calif.; brother, William Hampton of Charleston, Ill., as well as 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Albert Hampton; sister, Wanda Posey; and two brothers, Wayne Hampton and James L. Hampton. Funeral service honoring his life is 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at the Caudill-King Funeral Home, Charleston, Ill. The Reverend James L. Hayes officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will follow the service in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Mattoon.
