JAMES ALFRED HAW PhD, 71, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at home. Born in Cape Girar deau, Mo., James received his doctorate from the University of Virginia in 1972. He was a Professor of American History from the colonial era to the Civil War, with Indiana University Purdue-University Fort Wayne for 39 years. As an avid birder, he was a member of the National Audubon Society and Indiana Audubon Society. James was also a loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Surviving are many cousins. James was preceded in death by his parents, James M. and Wanda Haw. Funeral Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with calling from 9 to 11 a.m. Fr. Thomas Shoemaker officiating. Burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston, Mo. Memorials may be made to the Nature Conservancy or IPFW Foundation Brown Ink Society.
