JOSEPH "JOE" MAURICE CHANDLER, 86, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, of natural causes in Indianapolis, Ind. Joe was born in Zanesville, Ind., on Aug. 25, 1931. He graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne, class of 1949. He continued with his education to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Ball State Teachers College in 1956 and his Master's degree from Ball State in 1962. Joe was married to Marlene Joyce Clark on Feb. 14,1953; they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. Joe began his professional career teaching high school Industrial Arts in New Castle, Ind., where he also coached JV basketball. He transitioned in his career to International Harvester in 1963 where he was an assistant industrial relations manager. However, his love of teaching brought him back to the classroom in 1967 when he took a position with Indiana University's Division of General and Technical Studies (DGTS), and he stayed in the college classroom teaching organizational leadership until he retired from Indiana - Purdue Fort Wayne in 1994. Joe is survived by his wife, Marlene; children, Tracy (Kristen), Scott (Marien) and Darcy Milner; sister, Elizabeth Richter; seven grandchildren, and other family and friends. Memorial service is 2 p.m. March 10, 2018, at FairHaven Funeral Home, 6557 N. Clinton, Fort Wayne, with visitation from noon to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the Joseph and Marlene Chandler Scholarship Fund at the IPFW Department of Organizational Leadership.
