MICHAEL S. HACKWORTH, 65, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, in Fort Wayne. Born in Warsaw, he grew up in Silver Lake, Ind. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He worked as the liaison between the engineering and production staff in the Specialty Transformer Department at General Electric for 33 years. He was a passionate Civil War historian, love to read and do genealogy research. He was very quiet and liked simple things in life. Surviving are his sons, Phil Hackworth and Eric (Jill) Hackworth, both of Fort Wayne; former wife, Cheryl L. Ferverda of Fort Wayne; sister, Jennifer Lucht of Warsaw; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Hackworth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ballard J. and Lucille Hackworth. A private service will be held at a later date. Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Education Fund for Elizabeth c/o Phil Hackworth.
