ROBERT "BOB" DAVID SOMMER, 92, formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018, in Concord, N.C. Born on April 9, 1926 in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Barbara Marie Stauffer Sommer and Rev. Lester Ira Sommer. Bob was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a graduate of Purdue University. He worked as a Patent Agent for Essex Wire and United Technologies. Bob was dedicated to community service and to Saint Joseph United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne where he was a life-long member. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Greg) Murphy of Concord, N.C., Trish (Ed) Coyle of Atlanta, Ga.; sons, David (Barb) Sommer of Bloomington, Ill., John Sommer, Villa Park, Calif.; and nine grandchildren. He wass also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Rogers Sommer; and two brothers, Jim Sommer and Paul Sommer. A service of celebration of his life is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Saint Joseph United Methodist Church, 6004 Reed Rd., with calling one hour prior. Linda Martin officiating. The family will also receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018, at FairHaven Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 5667 N. Clinton St. Burial in Oaklawn Cemetery, Ossian, Ind. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint Joseph United Methodist Church Missions Fund, 6004 Reed Rd., Fort Wayne (IN 46835).
