ROWENA L. NORWOOD, 95, of Fort Wayne, formerly of Roanoke, died on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, 9:20 p.m., at Heritage Pointe of Fort Wayne. Born Dec. 31, 1922, in Mentone, Ind., she was the daughter of Walter and Pearl (Davis) Lackey. She graduated from Mentone High School and spent a year at the Butler University Music Conservatory. She then earned a Bachelor's degree from Manchester College and went on to earn a Master's degree in Special Education from University of St. Francis. Rowena married Jerry Norwood on Aug. 14, 1968, in Tucson, Ariz. Her Special Education teaching career of 33 years included 17 years for the Huntington County Community School Corporation, as well as years working with the children of Kosciusko, Wabash, and Whitley County schools; she retired in 1985. She was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2689 Auxiliary and a member of American Legion Post 160 in Roanoke. She was a member of Huntington Moose Lodge 827 and both the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the Huntington County Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Jerry L. Norwood of Fort Wayne; daughters, Vickie (Robert R. "Bob") Busian of Fort Wayne, Talinda (Rob) Morrow and Cynthia (Dan) Killion, both of Bloomington; son, Ben Beard of Bloomington; stepdaughters, Kathy (Larry) Burd and Linda (Dave) Spindler, both of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service is noon Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at Bailey - Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington (IN 46750), with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington. Preferred memorials are to Visiting Nurse Hospice Home, c/o Bailey - Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana, 46750.
