VIRGINIA MAY FREED, 84, of Auburn and formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 10, 2018, at DeKalb Health in Auburn. Born in DeKalb County on Sept. 3, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Winn C. and Helen (Jennings) Bowers. She was a graduate of Waterloo High School. Virginia worked at the Waterloo Dairy while in high school, was the secretary and bookkeeper for Everett Freed & Sons Construction for many years. She also worked for Dr. B.R. Graber and Dr. Wm. B. Hughes at the Waterloo Medical Clinic. She was a member of the Never Idle Extension Club for 50 years. She was a member of Fairview Missionary Church of Angola, baptized into the Christian faith at the age of 11. She was a member of the Red Hats Group, Relay for Life and a breast cancer survivor. Virginia married Everett L. Freed on Nov. 24, 1951 and he passed away Feb. 28, 2014. Surviving are three children, Kathy Freed Yeager of Villa Hills, Ky., James Everett (Deb Scott) Freed of Waterloo and Keith (Tammie) Freed of Butler; seven grandchildren, Shelley Albers of Crested Butte, Colo., Jodi (Brian) Cox of Waterloo, Kimberly (Timothy) Amyot of Charlotte, N.C., Mandy (Todd) Dale of Butler, Laura (Justin) Glaser of Auburn, Tori (Ryan) Cline of Butler and Brodie (Lisa) Freed; 13 great-grandchildren, Michael Gangloff, Addison Freed, Emery Cox, Lola Cox, Paisley Cox, Kayden Dale, Jaxson Dale, Keen Glaser, Kora Glaser, Lilli Cline, Cutter Cline, Piearce Cline, Lila Quinn Freed and a baby boy due in July; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Loren "Chub" and Mable Bowers of California and Dorothy Ankey of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Everett; a son-in-law, David Yeager; three brothers, Leon Bowers, Alan Bowers and Lyle Bowers; and two sisters-in-law, Katherine Bowers and Margot Bowers. Service is 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2018, at Feller & Clark Funeral Home, 875 South Wayne Street, Waterloo. Rev Phillip Imler officiating. Burial will follow the service in Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, Ind. Calling is from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials can be given to Olivia Stoy's cancer fight in memory of Virginia Freed, great-grandmother of childhood cancer survivor Michael Gangloff.
