JACK R. WORTHMAN

JACK R. WORTHMAN, 86, of New Haven, passed away at 5:10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 at Golden Years Homestead. He was born Jan. 2, 1927 in Fort Wayne, a son of John Roy and Alice (Yaney) Worthman. He graduated from South Side High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He graduated from Purdue University and the Chicago School of Fine Arts. He was the award winning designer for Worthman Homes. He was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church. During his 12 years as an Allen County Commissioner he was instrumental in the development of Headwaters Park, Wizards Ball Field, and the renovations of the Allen County Court House. He was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed spending time with his family at the lake. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Bettina Worthman of New Haven; sons, Jeffery R. Worthman of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, and Martin L. (Donna) Worthman of New Haven; daughters, Lisa L. Chiddister of Fort Wayne, Alice L. (Fritz) Martin of Columbia City, and Faith E. (Craig) Wise of Grabill; sister, Joan (Ron) Flohr of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial service is 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 501 W. Berry Street. Dr. John P. Gardner, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
