Janice Carignan Obituary

Janice Diana Carignan

Farmington, NH – Janice (Jan) Carignan formerly of Dover and Rollinsford, NH passed away from this life into the arms of Jesus her Savior on Saturday, 5/17/14. She was not only surrounded by her earthly family and friends, but by heavenly hosts and spiritual family that had predeceased her as she made that heavenly transition. She now continues her journey in the spiritual dimension, enjoying the glory of God's creation in a way which we cannot even begin to understand.

Jan was born in Dover on January 10 1951, the daughter of Rudolf and Madeline Poitras. She graduated from Dover High in 1969.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was dedicated to her family, church family and friends. She would help any in need and would go well out of her way to do so. Jan had a strong faith in God that was sparked by her deep love of God's word and was instrumental in bringing others to know and love the Lord. Throughout life she endured many hardships only to have her faith strengthened with each challenge. Even while she suffered with brain cancer, no words of despair were uttered, but words of hope, encouragement and acceptance.

Early on Jan worked as a secretary at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and later as a pre-school teacher at Raggedy Ann and Andy Pre-School in Dover until its closure. She then worked as an office worker at Coegibi in Dover and Vyn-All in Newmarket where she retired in 2011. Jan enjoyed family gatherings, music, knitting, reading and playing cards. She volunteered her summers helping her Church with Vacation Bible School. She was very active in her Church Group and enjoyed crocheting and knitting for many area charities.

Her infant daughter Stacy predeceased her in 1974 and her father in 2012.

Survivors include her husband Ron to whom she was married for 42 years, sons Jake and Brice and daughter-in- law Rhonda (Woodes), mother Madeline Poitras (Belanger), brother Mike Poitras, grandsons Dustin and Chase, many cousins, including Susan McCarthy who is more like a sister to Jan, mother-in-law Jackie Carignan, sister-in-law Doris (Carignan) Reece and husband Jim, nephews Brian and Jason Reece, brother-in-law Dennis Carignan and many dear friends.

Special thanks to the those who prayed for Jan from the beginning, to all of the church family who accompanied Jan through the duration and to Jan's cousin Susan McCarthy and friend Carol Wright who spent many days and nights caring for Jan in her final days.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Faith Baptist Church, Somersworth, NH on Saturday, 5/24/14 at 11:00 a.m. A green burial service will be held for family and friends at Cedar Brook green burial ground on 175 Boothby Road, Limington, Maine. Jan's wish for everyone is to know Jesus in a personal way by having fellowship with Him through prayer and the Bible. Donations may be made in Jan's memory to: Community Partners, Forum Court Suite 1, 113 Crosby Road, Dover, NH 03820-4375 and/or Special Olympics, 650 Elm St., Suite 200, Manchester, NH 03101.

Ron, Brice, Jake, Rhonda, and Chase my thoughts and prayer are with you. I will always remember our special week of caring for Jan. She had such great faith and love for Jesus. Jan and I had so much to do, but I know she and I will do these things together someday in heaven.

Ron and Jake along with her other family members, friends and church family. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I had no idea she was ill, I wish I had, I would have loved to spend some time with her. She was such a amazing lady, and lady she was, quiet, shy in many special ways, soft spoken and so sweet. She always made me smile and feel so welcomed when ever I would see her at church or a church function. Her love for our Lord was so evident, thru her words, her deeds and her being. She is now with her new family, and with God, smiling with total joy. Her memory will live on.
