John Routzahn Sr. Obituary
Mr. John Albert Routzahn, Sr. 88, of Frederick, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Alma Darlene Routzahn whom he married on January 30, 1955.

Born and raised in Frederick, Maryland on March 29, 1927, he was the son of the late Charles O. and Erma Routzahn.

He enlisted in the United States Navy, at the age of 17, and served in active duty from Aug. 1944 until July 1946. He continued his service in the USNR from Jan. 1951 to Jan. 1955 during which time he served as a Machinist Apprentice at Camp Detrick, in Frederick, Maryland. John spent the next 33 yrs. as a highly skilled Machinist within the Federal Government.

He was a member of Evangelical Reformed Church in Frederick, MD. John was a member of the American Legion Post 11, the Ali Ghan Shriners, the Cresap's Rifle Post 78 of the 29th Infantry Division Association, the Columbia Lodge 58 A.F. and A.M. Masonic Order, the National Rifle Association and the Elks Lodge 684.

Surviving are his four children; Lt. Colonel John A. Routzahn Jr. and wife Cheryl of Clarksville, TN., Teresa A. Heyworth of Frederick, Charles O. Routzahn of Thurmont and Michael W. Routzahn and wife Sandra of Falling Waters, WV. He is survived by six grandchildren, Rochelle Heyworth of Frederick, Lane Routzahn of Thurmont, Landon Routzahn of Thurmont, Emily Routzahn of Falling Waters WV, Jacob Routzahn of Falling Waters, WV, and Meghan Routzahn of Clarksville, TN. Also surviving John is his great-granddaughter, Eliana Cusimano.

The family would like to express its heart-felt thanks to the staff at Odyssey Assisted Living at Montevue for the kindness and care they provided during his stay at the facility and also to the doctors and staff at the Veterans Administration CBOC, Fort Detrick for their prompt and thorough medical care.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The funeral service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, July 9th at the funeral home. Chaplin Lt. Colonel John A. Routzahn Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
