Mary Morison Obituary

Mrs. Mary Vivian Morison, 69, of Potomac, died Friday, June 21, at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda, from a stroke.

She was the wife of Gordon C. Morison, retired assistant postmaster general of the U.S. Postal Service. They were married for 48 years.

Born in Kingston, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Charles and Grace Vivian.

Mrs. Morison was treasurer and past president of the Potomac Women's Club. She also served as a co-steward for communion at Potomac United Methodist Church, where she had been a member since 1976.

Before retiring, she had worked at Potomac Nursery.

After graduating from Syracuse University, Mrs. Morison had worked at Rochester (N.Y.) Times-Union before her two children were born. Upon coming to Washington, she volunteered for five years at the Smithsonian American History Museum.

An active stamp collector, she was well-known among the philatelic community and was a member of the American Philatelic Society. She was also a charter member of the American First Day Cover Society and a member of the American Topical Association, the Potomac Philatelic Society and other philatelic organizations.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two children, Keith Morison and wife Patty of Frederick, and Linda Morison of Columbia; one sister, Ruth Kitchener and husband Howard of Washington; and three grandchildren, Megan, Katie and Anna Grace Morison, all of Frederick.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 24, at Pumphrey's Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Potomac United Methodist Church, South Glen and Falls roads, Potomac.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Potomac United Methodist Church or the building fund of the American Philatelic Society, State College, Pa.
