Coach Charles Joseph Skinner Obituary
Coach Charles Joseph Skinner

- - Coach Charles Joseph Skinner passed away on June 11, 2018 after 87 wonderful years of a life well lived. Son of Marguerite Burns and Ross Skinner, he was raised in Madison Heights Michigan with his 7 brothers and sisters. As a star athlete at Madison High School, he caught the eye of his sweetheart Anna Petroff. They were married in 1952 and spent 65 years happily married. He attended Eastern Michigan University where he played football and later received his Master's Degree from the University of Michigan. Chuck and Anna had six children, Charles Jr. (deceased), Connie, Michael, James, Robert and Nancy. They also have many beautiful grandchildren including Andrew, Nataly, Angela, Kyle, Jason, Jordan, Danielle, Britton and great grandchildren Wesley, Lukas and Rosie. Chuck was best known as a high school teacher, football and wrestling coach, spending 25 years at Hazel Park High School and then 12 more years at Birmingham Seaholm. He was very competitive and taught many young men that hard work creates winners. His teams won multiple league, regional and state championships while teaching boys to become responsible young men. He founded AAU Wrestling in Michigan and was a elected in to the Michigan Football Coaches Hall of Fame. He stayed in touch with hundreds of students and athletes over the years who sought his advice and enjoyed his company. Chuck also was an entrepreneur who always joked that he needed to have multiple jobs to pay for all his kids. As the owner of the Royal Oak Putt-Putt Golf and Dairy Dip, Chuck employed many young people and continued to teach young men and women, including all his children, the importance of hard work and kindness. The joy he shared with us in life will continue to provide great memories and will keep him in our hearts and lives forever. His family and friends are invited to celebrate his life and memories at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road (Between Maple and Big Beaver), Troy 248-362-2500. Visiting hours are Thursday, June 14th from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Reflections will start at 7:00 p.m. And then again Friday, June 15th at St. Hugo of the Hills Church, 2215 Opdyke Rd., Bloomfield Hills from 10:00 a.m. until Mass at 11 a.m.
