South Lyon - Ruth passed away peacefully on April 1st, the Feast of the Resurrection, at age 91. She was born September 4, 1926 in South Lyon Michigan to Celia and Cortland Showerman on the family farm that is now South Lyon Cemetery. Ruth attended elementary school in South Lyon prior to the family move to rural Rose Bush, MI. Ruth attended middle school at St Mary's Academy in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from South Lyon High School in 1946. She married Jack Borden in 1955 and they settled their young family in Lansing, MI for 10 years. They then moved to Garden City, MI where they lived for 50 years. Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings: Paul, Gordon (Doris), Harold "Rabbi" (Irene), Don (Jane), Jane King (August), Joseph (Patricia), Marjorie (died at five from measles). The Showerman family built a family restaurant in Fowlerville, MI in 1947. Desserts were very popular. Ruth had a large extended family that she was very close to and very proud of. Ruth Borden is survived by her adoring husband of almost 63 years, Jack; sons, Timothy (Virginia) and Joseph; step-daughters; Deborah Olrich (Ron) and Andrea Byers (Don); grandchildren: Meghan, Andrew, Candice, Mark, and Dana; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, April 10th, 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, South Lyon, with immediate family. Ruth will be interred in the South Lyon cemetery in the Showerman Family plot where she once picked potatoes as a child. We will miss her love and sense of humor. Memorial to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, South Lyon, MI are appreciated.
