Patrick A. Elwell Obituary
Patrick A. Elwell

- - Husband, Father, Grandfather and Restauranteur.

Patrick A. Elwell, know to all as "Pat," was a loving husband, proud father, devoted grandfather, dear brother, uncle and respected boss. He loved a good joke and enjoyed the company of others.

During Pat's 50 year career, he mentored the young and befriended all others. Pat and his restaurant Patrick's (aka The Shalea Inn), were pillars in the community of Auburn Hills. Best known for frog legs and pan fried chicken, Patrick's was a popular dining destination for community members and celebrities for decades. Pat supported many charitable organizations and as fate would direct, founded one (MIRA) in 1993 with the late Dr. David Owen. Motivated by an illness in his family, Pat, determined to make a difference, made it his mission to fund research to cure diseases of the brain.

Patrick Abraham Elwell was born on July 17th 1937 in Detroit to Hazel and John Joseph Elwell and had one brother George. He attended Clawson High School. Pat met Paula Patterson in 1964 and married in 1965. He was father to Kelly (Nick) and Pat Jr. (Tamara), grandfather to Lily, Chloe, Sophia and James (Talmers), Stephanie and Logan (Elwell). Dear brother to George (Diane) Uncle of Dawn Hurren (Bruce), Cindy Laroque (John) and Jeffrey Elwell (Edith).

Pat loved life and fought his illness with determination, humor and grace. He will be greatly missed and will always be remembered by the lives he touched.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 7th from 2-8PM at A. J. Desmond and Sons Funeral home, 2600 Crooks Rd. (Between Maple and Big Beaver) Troy, 248-362-2500. Funeral Mass Thursday 11 a.m. at St. Hugo of the Hills Stone Chapel, 2215 Opdyke Rd., Bloomfield Hills. Visitation at church begins 10:30am. Memorial tributes to Mental Illness Research Association (MIRA), memo: for brain research only. View obituary and share memories at AJDesmond.com
