DR. HARRY OKNAIAN

Sunset: Chatsworth, CA - February 4, 2017
Chatsworth - Dr. Harry Oknaian, 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Dr. Harry Oknaian grew up in Depression-era Detroit, the younger of the two children (sister, Margaret) of Mardig and Rose Oknaian of Armenian descent.
During the 1950's, he honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy. In 1958 he graduated from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine which led to a long and well-respected, successful professional career in podiatry. He was most notably an accomplished foot surgeon in both Michigan and California, where he also volunteered his services in state facilities and inner city communities. Harry was a kind and gentle man who loved contributing to his Armenian Church and community. He will be greatly missed by all.
Harry is survived by his wife Seta, his children, Cynthia, Paul and husband Peter, Aram, Raffi and wife Emily, his grandson Eduard, his niece Michaelene and husband John Torzewski, his brothers- in-law, Berge Oknayan and family, Arto Oknayan and family, his step-children, Donna, Joe, Cheryl Ann, and the families of Oknaian, Oknayan, Andrysczyk, Torzewski, Karakashian, Achoukian, Morookian, Kalian, Kassabian, Batmanian, Arcidiaco, Gladysz, and many close friends. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church, 17231 Sherman Way, Van Nuys, CA 91406.

Dear Oknaian family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I will remember Uncle Harry for his kindness, generosity, wisdom and sincerity. Uncle Harry always took a genuine interest in what was happening in the lives of people around him. His warm demeanor was comforting and will never be forgotten.
