Mavis Brittell Ground was born on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1925 in Denver, CO, and passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018, in Clovis, CA. She graduated from Hastings High School in Hastings, NE in 1943, and married Frank J. Ground, then serving in the United States Navy in World War II. In 1948, the couple moved to Porterville, CA, relocating to Fresno, CA in 1969. Mavis worked at California Department of Motor Vehicles as a registration manager and also as a driver's license examiner, retiring in 1983. Mavis loved people, and was active in the Methodist Church her whole life, at First United Methodist in Hastings, First United Methodist in Porterville, and St. Paul's United Methodist in Fresno. She also volunteered in many community organizations. Mavis and Frank enjoyed square dancing with the Fresno Steppers and Stompers, and over the years, danced in nearly every one of the United States. They cherished the time they spent with their grandchildren, and especially enjoyed attending their sporting events. Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, Harold G. and Ida May Brittell; her brother, Walter Brittell; sisters, Roberta Crounse, and Madelyn Adams; daughter, Katheryn Williamson; and her husband, Frank, of 73 years. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Carroll and husband Douglas; son, Richard Ground; daughter, Mary Lou Hains and husband Gary; and son-in-law, Ronald Williamson. She also leaves nine grandchildren, Brett Carroll, Alison Carroll, Sean Williamson, Heather Ground, Laura Yanovsky, Jenny Williamson, Christine Williamson, Bobby Hains, and Stacey Von Tersch; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Visitation will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Friday, August 17, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Service begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the social hall.
