Randy Ghan Obituary

Randy passed away suddenly on December 7, 2018 while visiting family in Turlock, California. Randy was born November 5, 1951 in Fresno, California and resided here his whole life except for time away attending Humboldt State University. Randy entered the Labor Movement in 1973 as a member of the Bakery, Confectionery and Tobacco Workers Union at the Perfection Macaroni factory in Fresno, became the Secretary-Treasurer (CEO) of the Fresno, Madera, Tulare, and Kings Counties Central Labor Council in 1990, and was honored as the 1992 and 2017 Labor Leader of the Year, the only Labor Leader to ever receive this honor twice. For 16 years Randy was a Partner Director of the CLC Partnership, which provides employment readiness services at the Workforce Connection in Manchester Center in Fresno, and in San Mateo County, and was the Treasurer of the Board of Regenerate California Innovation, Inc., a Fresno-based non-profit corporation managing community and economic development programs. Randy was preceded in death by his loving partner of 37 years, Sharon Hodson, and his Mother Irene Kuns and Father Melvin Ghan. Randy is survived by his Daughter and Son-in-Law, Maria Jordan and Antwoun Whitfield Sr.; Grandchildren Antwoun, Jordan, Angela, and Anthone Whiffield; Daughter Tracey Jordan; Grandchildren Isaac Jordan, Jimmy John and Mia Gonzalez; Great Grandchildren Aubrielle, Aaliyah and Olivia Hernandez, Amora Jordan, and Nevaleya, Benjamin, and Sylas Gonzalez; Sister and Brother-in-Law, Judy and Jim McCarty; Niece Shannon McCarty and Partner Stacy Hogan and Children Mathew and Kaylee; and Nephew Doug McCarty and Children Faith, Christian and Gracee. Randy loved his family, friends, work, travel, and leisure time passionately. He worked and played hard. His union leadership and civic engagement were valued and respected. Randy was the life of a party, a true wine connoisseur, and a wonderful listener and conversationalist. We will dearly miss him. A Celebration of Randy's Life will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, January 14, 2019 at the Clovis Veterans Memorial Hall, 808 4th St, Clovis, CA 93612. Memorial gifts and remembrances are encouraged as donations in Randy's honor to the American Cancer Society (2222 W Shaw Ave #201, Fresno, CA 93711), or to a charity of the donor's choosing.

A true Heart & Soul of the labor movement. Randy was a voice for the working class and the community of the Central Valley. As one Labor leader from the past once said: "Pray & Celebrate the departed & FIGHT LIKE HELL for the living. We will continue what Randy & others have always done.

One of the nicest guys I ever met, thanks to Pody Field. If I were in the States I would be there on the 14th. I'll be thinking if him and Pody having a glass vino and laughing together

I love you like a rock Uncle Randy. I already am missing you. Mattie is so upset you weren't here yesterday with the BMW 6 for his birthday joyride. We are all still in shock. I'm sure you are so happy now with Aunt Sharon. Thank you for always being so kind and loving to me. Xo
