Alona Rae Amos, 81, of Commerce City, passed away Nov. 1.
She was born Aug. 11, 1937, in Scottsbluff, Neb., to the late Arthur and Mildred Thurman. Alona was a housekeeper most of her life and enjoyed it. She started a side business doing washing and ironing for people she met while working at the Denver Merchandise Mart. Her clients became very near and dear to her during her 50 years of business.
Alona was well known as a wonderful baker and her candy making during the holidays. However, Alona's true pride and passion were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She cherished every moment she had with each and every one of them.
Survivors include three children, Freddie Lee (Amos), Cheryl Shea and Terri (Ben) Lovato; grandchildren, Crystal Lageman, Jason (Cates), Darrell (Cates), Darlene (Christina) Lopez, Jeremy (Cates), Sophia (David) Goans, Benjamin Lovato, Thomas Shea Jr.; five more grandchildren, two brothers; a sister; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her brothers Rick, Don and Frank Thurman; sisters, Doris Jean Thurman, Judy McCalip; and Debra Cates and Sam Amos, preceded her in death.
Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Aspen Mortuary in Commerce City. A reception follows.
Alona's ashes will be laid at Mount Lindo in Morrison in the spring.
