Richard D. Kaess, 75, passed away March 26 at Oxford House Memory Care in Derby, Kansas. He was born Aug. 5, 1942, in Salida to Melville C. Kaess and Alice M. Bigelow. He attended Salida HS then moved on to then-Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction.
Rich then attended Metro State, where he obtained his criminal justice degree and then worked 32 years in corrections for the state of Colorado. He resided in Brighton for 43 years.
Rich traveled the world. His hobbies included umpiring, refereeing and the Denver Broncos. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
Survivors are his children, DeeAnn (Ron) Hill, of Pratt, Kansas, and Brad (Barbara) Kaess. of Huntington Beach, California; a brother, Don (Sue) Kaess; sisters Karen (Ben) Yeatts, and Melette (Doug) Maypark; and grandchildren, Brittnee Hill, Carter and Keaton Kaess.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday April 28, at Hillside Cemetery in Cotopaxi, with the Rev. Chuck Surface officiating.
