James Jackson "Jack" Bentley

Obituary Condolences

Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Rainbow City, Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. for James Jackson "Jack" Bentley, 89, of Rainbow City, who went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 27, 2013. The Rev. Robby Edwards will officiate. Burial will be at Rainbow Memorial Gardens. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
He was born in Tallapoosa, Ga., on July 2, 1923. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, worked at Republic Steel for 37 years and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Rainbow City for 56 years, where he loved all of his pastors and his Sunday School class. Jack was a strong, happy man who readily served others and never met a stranger. In fact, he was known by many as "Smiling Jack."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Watson Bentley and Willie Mabry Bentley; and his three brothers, William Eli Bentley, Robert Frances Bentley and Kenneth Mabry Bentley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Juanita Cash Bentley, who he married on April 21, 1946, and stayed happily married for 66 years. He is also survived by his sister, Emma Jane Rogers of Tallapoosa, Ga.; his son, Jim (Patsy) Bentley of Gadsden, his son, John (Allison) Bentley of Birmingham; his granddaughter Laura (Kris) Catoe of Gadsden; his granddaughter, Kaitlin Bentley of Birmingham; his grandson, Jackson Bentley of Birmingham; and his three great grandchildren, Ben, Cash and Zoe Catoe of Gadsden.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be given to First Baptist Church in Jack's honor.
