Home Going Services for Mr. Andre' Gilmore Stanley will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Bethel Baptist Church, 218 West Dr. L W Rosemond Lane in Gaffney, S.C. at 2 p.m. The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Ceremony will be at 1:00 followed by visitation with the family. Committal, Benediction and Interment will be at Frederick Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Foster Funeral Home also in Gaffney, S.C.

Andre' Gilmore Stanley was born March 21, 1954, in Fort Mill, South Carolina to the late Mack Stanley and Naomi Gilmore Stanley. At an early age, the family moved to Gaffney, South Carolina. He departed this life on August 19, 2017, in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Andre' accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and St. Luke Episcopal Church, where he served as a Lay Reader.

Mr. Stanley graduated from Gaffney High School in 1972. He attended Wofford College in Spartanburg were he was initiated into the Tau Delta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. He then transferred to Clemson University and graduated with a BS in Microbiology in 1977. In 1995, Andre' graduated from the University of South Carolina's Arnold School of Public Health with a master's degree in Public Health Administration. Andre' was currently completing courses at the University of Chicago PHD program in Public Health.

Mr. Stanley was a Policy Analyst for the US Food and Drug Administration's Center for Tobacco Products in Silver Spring, Maryland. Prior to serving in the federal government, he worked in other various tobacco control capacities around the country including the former North Carolina Health and Wellness Trust Fund in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Smokeless States National Tobacco Policy Initiative in Chicago, Illinois, and the American Stop Smoking Intervention Study for Cancer Prevention (Project ASSIST) at the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control in Columbia, SC. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Public Health at the University of the District of Columbia. Andre' was a member of the Executive Board of the American Public Health Association (APHA) where he was previously the chair of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Section of the Association. In 2011, the APHA awarded him a Fellowship in Government where he served on Capitol Hill as a legislative assistant in the US House of Representatives.

He leaves to cherish loving memories: his daughters, Andrea Stanley Mathis (George) of Anderson, S.C. and Amber Elizabeth Stanley of Greer, S.C.; his mother, Naomi Gilmore Stanley; his sister, Jennifer Lynn Stanley; his aunt, Marion Gilmore; his uncle, Edward Newton; and a host of cousins and other relatives including Gladys Gilmore and Charlene Newton Reid (Paul); Elizabeth Carr Stanley and Dr. Moreen Joseph and numerous friends, fraternity brothers, and co-workers.
