Even though never met Neill I enjoyed our emails and phone calls. My friend, Ken Kiple, knowing that I had an interest in Cuba and the revolution told me about Nealls books. After I finished them I did something I have never done in my 60+ years. I sent Neall a fan letter, which he responded to. I just found out last night that he had passed and I would like to express my sympathy to the family.

Dear Mrs. Macaulay and family,
I was so sad to hear of Mr. Macaulay's passing. I remember how he taught me to ride and take care of the horses, which I enjoyed riding and learning about immensely. I will always charish my memories of growing up in Micanopy in part because I had such loving and caring people like the Macaulay's as my neighbors.

With Deepest Sympathy,
Laura (Pollini) Donda

Dearest Macaulay Family,
It's now June and I've heard the heartbreaking news. My condolences to you all. Neil was the first man I ever met who was a Professor. I remember he was always generous, patient and caring.
He was the image of strength, class and love all in one. I tremendously appreciate all the hospitality and care you all shared. Simply being your neighbor was a blessing. It would be a pleasure to stay in touch if you wish. I look forward to hearing of all your endeavors. My heart is with you. Sincerely, "Day" Pollini

Dear Mrs. Macaulay, Charlie, Bobby and Jimmy,

I am sad to hear of your loss. I send my love and sincere wish that you will continue to live the spirit of Mr. Macaulay and his beautiful contribution to so many people. It was a joy to have been your neighbors when we moved from Boston to Micanopy. Your whole family always made us feel so welcome at your home. I will always have fond memories of the kindness and generosity you all shared. I am glad that I stopped by a few years ago when I returned to Florida and how wonderful it was that Nancy and Neil were home. Please be in touch, I look to hear back from the boys at some point.

For now, I send BIG WARM HUGS to ALL OF YOU.

Dearest Nancy, Charlie, Bobby & Jimmy -- I was so, so sorry to hear of your loss. He was such a remarkable, extraordinary man, but you don't need me to tell you that. I always felt lucky to have grown up near and with his strong, smart, funny sons. I am sorrier than I can say to know that you will need every bit of that strength now, and in these circumstances. My thoughts and deepest affections are with you all.
