THOMAS HUNT Obituary

HUNT, THOMAS W.

Thomas William "Tom" Hunt (60) passed away peacefully on October 14, 2011 at his home in Gainesville, Florida, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Tom was born January 9, 1951 in Cedartown, Georgia.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Kathy Hunt of Gainesville, Florida; his son, Thomas Eric Hunt (Mary Alice) of Gainesville, Florida; his daughter, Jessica Lauren Carr (James) of High Springs, Florida; his four-month old granddaughter, Jillian Grace "Junebug" Carr; his mother, Jean Anne Johnson (Raymon) of Jacksonville, Florida; his father, Thomas N. Hunt (Millie) of Cedartown, Georgia; his sisters, Julie Anne Johnson and Ginger L. Allen (Mike) of Jacksonville, Florida; his brothers, Tony Hunt and Todd Hunt (Janna) of Atlanta, Georgia; his nieces, Lindsey Hunt of College Station, Texas, Hannah Allen of Jacksonville, Florida and Katie Hunt of Atlanta, Georgia; his nephew, Alex Hunt of Atlanta, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his special uncle, David Glenn, sister, Kaye Plummer and niece, Nicole Brynes.

As destiny ordained, Tom returned with his family from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Cedartown as a high school sophomore where he met his future wife, Kathy. They were married September 4th, 1970 and their beautiful life story began. Tom attended West Georgia College and later entered the building construction program at Santa Fe College. They moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1971 where Tom became a building contractor. He was a master craftsman in many of the trades and with his wife as his business partner constructed many beautiful homes in the Gainesville area which were considered their labor of love. Every home, no matter the size, was built with incredible attention to detail and resulted in the establishment of lifelong friends with each home's residents. Over the years he employed many young men of high school and college age and sought to instill in them quality work ethics, pride in their job and how to become responsible men of character. He never asked anyone to perform any task that he wouldn't do himself and could be seen on the job site picking up trash, digging ditches and any other task that needed to be done.

He served in the United States National Guard for six years and earned the ranking of expert marksman. He had an infectious sense of humor, adored his family and was passionate for his work. He will be sorely missed but reminded us that he'll "miss us every day but will see us again".

A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, October 30th at 2:00 p.m. at Celebration United Methodist Church with Rev. Harry Holloman officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Celebration United Methodist Church Building Fund, 9501 S.W. Archer Road, Gainesville, FL 32608, in care of Rev. Harry Holloman.

Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 N.W 143RD Street.

Happy Birthday Daddy, I am sending you my love.
I know you're next to Jesus and celebrating above.
I know that you're surrounded by such beauty up in Heaven.
You'll probably telling angels that you're turning 97.
I wish that I could hug you and give you a big kiss.
Those sweet embraces we used to share are something that I miss.
I'm sure that you are cracking jokes and making angels smile.
I'm jealous but I know we'll be together in a while.
Although I want you here so bad and the loss of you still stings,
I know you got the best gift this year with the sprouting of your wings.
So Happy Birthday Daddy, I'll try my best not to cry.
But look down and you'll see me blowing kisses in the sky.

For Jean and all of your family - I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. Jean, from reading many of the other entries in this guest book, it comes as no surprise to me that your Tom is obviously so highly thought of in his community. He certainly has a "class act" for a Mother, and my heart breaks for your pain and sadness. Please know that you are in my thoughts and each of you have my deepest, most heartfelt sympathies.

Scott and I are so very sad at Tom's passing. He and Kathy became friends during the planning and building of our home 11 years ago and our lives have been enriched knowing them. Dear Kathy, When we think of Tom, we think of a kind person. Often people dealing in the business world forget that the person on the other end of the phone is a human being. Tom never did, he was always kind no matter what was going on. We feel blessed knowing Tom and will miss him. Please accept our condolences from everyone at Secur-tel.

Dad, Tom, Poppa T, Maker of Men, dedicated father and husband, quality home builder, and all of the other words and phrases which describe Thomas W Hunt,
I feel truly blessed to have known you and worked along side of you. You showed me so much from technical specifics within construction to how to be a father I am and will strive to become. You are the epitome of what I believe a man should be. I just wish you had more time to enjoy your own life as well as we the family enjoy additional time with you. Although, I know you are in a better place doing bigger and better things. I can only imagine your abilities to touch lives now. Your legacy will continue to live on through all of your loved ones who had the chance to be your family or friend. As you said “I will miss you but I will see you soon”.

Tom, No words could ever express just how very SPECIAL you are to me! You were everything and more that anyone could ever hope for in a brother! You were my idol and role model. You showed me the person I always wished I could be, and how I should strive to live my life! You ALWAYS saw the good in me and made me feel loved and welcome in your home. Even though I am so VERY sad you had to go... I can think of your smile & remember all the good times we shared and know that we will be together again for eternity! I know you are in a much better, beautiful place with Jesus, Kaye, Nicole, David & Bigmama, and many others. I know you, Kaye, and David are having a blast already! So, until we meet again...rest in peace and know just how very, very SPECIAL you were and are to me, and how much I love you! All my love forever and ALWAYS! Your sister, JULIE "JUJU" JOHNSON

We love Tom (& Kathy), 2 wonderful people! I don't know that I've met a better man; with such honesty and integrity to his name and person. We are in shock, and so glad we had the opportunity to get to know him, laugh with him and admire him. God must have needed him for something special which we don't understand... We will miss him and always hold the love in our hearts for him. Our love goes out to Kathy with big hugs, as well as his kids & beautiful granddaughter. Much love and many prayers are sent to you. We will always be here for all of you. He gave his heart for us and it meant and means so much to us. He will aways have a special place in our hearts and lives which we will cherish forever. Dear Sweet Kathy, Jessica and Eric,
Words can not express the sorrow in my heart that is felt for your loss, but in the same breath you have joy in your hearts for the reunion that you will some day have with your husband and dad, and so I rejoice with you on that. Love, from your long ago friend, but seems just yesterday we made memories together. Darla
