Nancy Gesinski Brookshire Obituary

Died Dec. 15, 2017

Nancy Gesinski Brookshire, age 65, while slumbering next to the love of her life, Dwight, peacefully left this world for a place of Glory on Friday morning, December 15, 2017.

Imagine the surprise of mother, Esther, and father, Edward Gesinski when they realized their parenting was beginning again after Jerry (18) and Carol (9). Nancy was born in Milwaukee, Wis. Nancy attended and graduated from St. Joan Antida High School, where she filled her days with twirling batons and skating, of the ice and roller variety.

A few years later in a platinum blonde wig, Nancy married Larry John of Milwaukee, which brought a curly-haired Christine, then the perfect baby boy, Bradley, into the world. Both of whom she'd impart her amazing work ethic, among many other admirable traits. Throughout the adolescence of Christine & Brad, Nancy played the role of Room Mom, Team Mom, Girl Scout Leader and Y Club Advisor, just to name a few.

Many of the early years of her marriage took place on the back of their Kawasaki or Honda Gold Wing motorcycles visiting places like Kansas City, Mount Rushmore and camping at Eagle River.

On the 20th of December, 1992, Nancy married Dwight Brookshire, the man that would become her partner in crime for the remainder of her days.

Side by side for 25 years, they served each other, their families, their church (from youth to seniors), their USPS co-workers and any other needy soul they met along the way. Dwight was a good sport to any crazy idea Nancy might have devised, up to even playing a butler for the tea parties she would throw for the little girls in the family. Nancy's love for Dwight's children ran deep and strong as it did for her own. To them, they were all simply their kids.

Nancy continued her love of traveling with Dwight. Together they went to D.C., Reno, Buffalo, Nashville, Grapevine, New Orleans, Charleston and National Harbor, Md., just to name a few.

The one thread that ran through Nancy's entire life was the role she played in the kitchen. Her love language spilled out over the top of boiling pots and clung to wooden spoons like magic. If you came near her, you would be fed. What we all learned over time was that while we thought she was feeding our appetite, it was our souls she was filling with love and nutrition it needed. Food was her ministry and humankind was her church.

Nancy is preceded in death by parents Edward and Esther Gesinski; brother, Jerry; father-in-law, Bud Brookshire; and children Scott Brookshire and Christopher Brookshire.

Survivors include: husband, Eddie Dwight Brookshire; children, Christine (John) Fuller, Brad (Tara) John, Tammy Braswell, Melanie Brookshire Simmons and Corey Brookshire; grandchildren, Jillian (Matt) Warman, Amanda Braswell, Danielle Braswell, Shane Simmons, Callie Simmons, Shelbie Brookshire, Gabe Fuller and Katlyn Fowler; and great grandchild, Iris Warman; mother-in-law, Ola Brookshire; sister, Carol Hinman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2017, at Harmony Hall Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 17, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Ward's Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to: Harmony Hall Baptist Church, 4160 Mangum Mill Road, Gainesville, GA 30507 or National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Georgia Chapter, 950 East Paces Ferry Road NE, Suite 110, Atlanta, GA 30326, or online at http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/nancybrookshire.
