Harlan Trent Strohl Obituary
BLUFFTON, SC- Harlan Trent Strohl passed away on December 7, 2018 after a short bout with cancer and a long struggle with dementia. He was born December 11, 1936 to parents Stanley Arthur Strohl and Bernice Trent Strohl in Monticello, IL. After graduating from Monticello High in 1954, he joined the Navy in 1959 where he spent most of his service in Japan as a personnel clerk. Upon leaving the Navy in 1963 he attended Racine Technical Institute in Racine, WI earning an associate degree in Business. Harlan spent most of his career in sales at Western Publishing Company in Racine specializing in premium sales and sponsored publishing manufacturing many popular games including Trivial Pursuit and Uno. He was honored as Salesman of the Year several times.
Harlan married Mary McLean in 1970. In 1991 they moved to Durham, NC where he continued his sales career. He retired in 1994 to enjoy his passion for gardening. In 2002, he and Mary moved to Sun City Hilton Head in Bluffton, SC.
Harlan is predeceased by his parents and two siblings Spencer Strohl and Corinne Strohl Turner. He has one sister remaining, Julie Strohl Hawtin (Wesley) of Burt MI. Many nieces, nephews and scores of friends will miss his kindness and humor. There will be a committal service at 2:00 PM Wednesday January 16, 2018 in Oakwood Cemetery, Gastonia, NC. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the event room of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
