STANLEY-- A beloved husband, father, grandfather and a man who never met a stranger best describes Lloyd Delwin Slifer, 88 who passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 11, 2018. Lloyd was born May 9, 1930 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Walter Lloyd Slifer and Ethel (Funkhouser) Slifer. Lloyd was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force. His children and wife, Ruby will always remember Lloyd for his sense of humor. He was the family comedian and always wore a smile. His children will always remember that even when he corrected them it was with love and compassion. Lloyd's favorite hobbies were gardening, fishing, playing with his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of sixty-one years, Ruby Wood Slifer of Stanley, NC; children, Terri Lynch and husband, J.R. of Monroe, NC, Lloyd Delwin "Del" Slifer II and wife, Margie of Stanley, NC, and Mark Ericson Slifer and wife, Rhonda of Gastonia, NC; two grandchildren, Cristy Auberry and husband, John and Zachery Slifer; one great-grandson, Eli Auberry; sister, Hazel Spitzer of Fort Defiance, VA.
