GASTONIA, NC-- Mr. Parks Weldon Stiles, 70, of Gastonia, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Robin Johnson House, with his family by his side. He was born November 18, 1947, in Gastonia, a son of the late Floyd Thomas Stiles and Mary Jane Teague Stiles Gragg and step-father, John Gragg.
Parks was raised in Gastonia schools and served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He earned his bachelor's degree and served as an industrial engineer for Homelite and then John Deere. He was a longtime member of East Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and for the last five years as a member of the Dental and Medical Mission to Honduras. Parks wanted to be remembered as a good husband and father that loved the life the Lord had given and that he tried to live as Christ directed.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sharon Dehart Stiles; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Wanda Stiles of Duncan, SC; Tim and Holly Stiles of Gastonia; grandchildren, Madeline, Finley, Amanda, Maxton, Emily and Lennon Stiles; sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Chuck Jackson; Dale and Kenneth Lundy, all of Gastonia; Cheryl "Suzie" Gregory and other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Gragg, and sister, Robin Gragg.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 14, 2018, from 1:30pm to 2:45pm, in the sanctuary of East Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00pm, in the church with Rev. Tim Parker officiating. Interment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Rites performed by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
