GASTONIA - Vernon Franklin Carson, 78, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018.

The son of the late Vernon Oscar Carson and Edith Carson Lovell grew up in Kings Mountain, NC attending Kings Mountain High School. He attended Clemson University and graduated from Appalachian State University.

Vernon retired from National Textiles after 25 years of service as the Vice President of Yarn Manufacturing. After retirement he cherished spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, who were the light of his life. You could also find him on the golf course or watching basketball and football games. In addition, he was able to enjoy another passion, which was coaching youth football, acting as a volunteer football coach at Cramerton Middle School for several years during retirement. Coaching youth football was a pastime he thrived in periodically throughout his life, including in Richmond County, NC and at Union Road Optimist.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jo-Carole Sigmon Carson; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Karen Carson of Mooresville, NC; daughter, Jodie Carson Becknell of Belmont, NC; granddaughters, Kathryn and Meredith Carson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Lawrence Lovell.

A service to celebrate Vernon's life will be held at 11:30am, Saturday, December 8, 2018, in the chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with Pastor Kitty Rankin and Pastor Jason Dampier officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 10am. Inurnment will be private for the family.
