A character. An eccentric. The deep gravelly voice. The black clothes. The gruff, no-nonsense attitude. The child-like gleam in the hazelnut eyes. A family man. A fighter. A champion of the underdog. Beneath the rough exterior, a tender compassionate heart. On Thursday, September 17, 2015. Father and father-in-law of Jude and Sarah Shugar, Seth and Julie Shugar. Grandfather of Ben, Flynn, Tristan and Lila. Brother of the late Terry Shugar. Son of the late Sarah Shugar and the late Joseph Shugar. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, September 20 at 3:15 p.m. Burial at the Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem Congregation Cemetery, Kehal Yeshurin Section, de la Savane. Shiva at 5503 Borden following service, and on Monday and Tuesday, from 10 to 2 p.m.

He was always rifling through the kitchen on his visits, always brought birthday cards for the girls, first and foremost a family man. His boys & grandchildren were all that mattered.
He will be missed, I do already, and will forever. A great person taken way too early!

you both were fantastic sons to your dear dad; you were there for him right to the end. please accept my most sincere sympathies and that your memories of him sustain you through the year of mourning.

We will miss your Dad. His visits were a combination of gentle banter and outrage! Al was a champion! He LOVED his children and grandkids and was so proud of them. His friendship to us will be remembered fondly.He was always so kind and supportive of our children ,Terra ,Gina and Sunny.Always asking questions ,truly interested in what they had to say. On behalf of all of us our most heartfelt condolences to Seth and Judah.xxx
